Gasoline Prices: Project by Simon Martin is funded by the DFG

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved a project proposal by post-doc Simon Martin on the causes of price cycles in the fuel market. As part of the project "Demand cycles, traffic flows and the regulation of fuel markets", Martin is investigating daily price cycles at petrol stations in order to draw conclusions for regulation and taxation. For this purpose, high-frequency traffic flow data from the Federal Highway Research Institute are being evaluated for the first time and combined with price data from petrol stations. Especially in recent months, petrol prices have risen sharply and have repeatedly raised concerns about the functioning of the petrol station market with competition authorities.
